Alberta Employer criteria

As an Alberta Employer, you must:

  • Be incorporated or registered by or under an act of the legislature of a province or the Parliament of Canada and operating as a business that has an established production capability, plant or place of business in Alberta.
  • Provide a permanent, full-time job offer to the candidate that:
    • Falls under one of the following National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels:
      • NOC 0: Management occupations
      • NOC A: Occupations that usually require university education.
      • NOC B: Occupations that usually require college education.
      • NOC C: Occupations that usually require specific training and/or secondary education. Please note only candidates working in a NOC C occupation must complete a designated language test with scores that meet language requirements. More details are listed under Candidate criteria below.
        • Some occupations are not eligible for consideration under the International Graduate Category. Please review the list of ineligible occupations (list updated June 20, 2014). If the occupation your potential Candidate is performing is on this list, you are not eligible to apply to the AINP under this category.
    • Meets Alberta’s employment and wage standards.
    • Does not conflict with existing collective bargaining agreements. The AINP will not approve an application if there is a labour dispute in progress that may directly or indirectly involve the employer or the candidate.
  • Show you are offering wages and benefits to the candidate that meet industry standards.
    • Visit the ALIS website for wage and benefit standards.

 

Candidate criteria

As a Candidate, you must:

  • Clearly show in the application that you are able to and intend to live permanently in Alberta.
  • Be working full-time in Alberta, for the employer who is supporting your application, at the time of application.
  • Be performing the same occupation as is stated on your permanent, full-time job offer from your employer.
  • Be working in an occupation that falls under one of the following National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels:
    • NOC 0: Management occupations
    • NOC A: Occupations that usually require university education.
    • NOC B: Occupations that usually require college education.
    • NOC C: Occupations that usually require specific training and/or secondary education. Please note, only candidates working in a NOC C occupation, must complete a designated language test with scores that meet language requirements. More details are listed below.
      • Some occupations are not eligible for consideration under the International Graduate Category. Please review the list of ineligible occupations (list updated June 20, 2014). If the occupation your potential Candidate is performing is on this list, you are not eligible to apply to the AINP under this category.
  • Have obtained a certificate, diploma, degree, or have completed a graduate level program from
    • one of these AINP approved Alberta public and private post-secondary institutions or
    • a publicly funded community college, trade/technical school or university in another Canadian province or territory.
    • The program of study in Canada must have been at least one year (i.e. minimum of two semesters of full-time study, or equivalent) in duration.
  • Have a current and valid Post-Graduation Work Permit issued by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship (IRCC) Canada.
  • If working in a NOC C occupation, you must submit official test results showing that you meet the minimum language standards, and your test results cannot be more than two years old at the time of application to the AINP. The only official test results that the AINP will accept are listed below, along with the minimum language standards. If you do not have test results or your test results are more than two years old, go to the Language Test Centre section of the AINP website for up-to-date information on testing availability:
    • A Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) General Test taken on or before March 31, 2014, with minimum scores of:
      • Listening: 2H
      • Reading: 2H
      • Writing: 2H
      • Speaking: 2H
    • A Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) General Test taken on or after April 1, 2014, with minimum scores of:
      • Listening: 4
      • Reading: 4
      • Writing: 4
      • Speaking: 4
    • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General Test with minimum scores of:
      • Listening: 4.5
      • Reading: 3.5
      • Writing: 4
      • Speaking: 4
    • A Test d’Évaluation de Français (TEF) with minimum scores of:
      • Listening: 145
      • Reading: 121
      • Writing: 181
      • Speaking: 181

 

Self-Employed Farmer Stream

The AINP works closely with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AAF) to assess the eligibility of applicants in this category.

Self-Employed Farmer Stream criteria

Self-Employed Farmer Stream criteria (include but are not limited to):

  • You must prove that you have farm management skills shown by:
    • Financial documentation of your existing farm business
    • Documentation of your education, training and work experience
    • Proposed business plan for the farming enterprise you are considering in Alberta
    • Proof that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance your proposed farming business.
  • You must have sufficient financial resources to develop a sustainable farming operation.
    • You must be able to invest a minimum of CDN $500,000 of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta.
    • You must provide documents that demonstrates you have a minimum net worth of CDN $500,000 or confirmation that you have access to a similar amount of funds from other sources.
    • The CDN $500,000 is the minimum amount. You may be required to show you have the ability to invest more than the minimum.
  • You must invest in a primary production farming business in Alberta.
    • You will have to document your investment intentions in your proposed business plan.
    • Applications representing the best opportunity for growth relevant to Alberta's agri-food targets will be given priority.

Meeting the criteria listed above does not guarantee a nomination or permanent residence.

INTERNATIONAL SKILLED WORKER: POINTS ASSESSMENT GRID

 

A minimum score of 60 points out of 100 is needed to apply under an SINP International Skilled Worker (ISW) sub-category.

The following areas are used to determine whether you qualify for an International Skilled Worker sub-category. Points that you claim will be confirmed using your submitted documents. You may only claim points once for each section.

Points are available for having a strong connection to the Saskatchewan labour market, which shows a genuine intent and ability to successfully settle and economically establish in Saskatchewan as a permanent resident.

(The applicant or accompanying spouse has a family relative that is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Saskatchewan. The family members in Saskatchewan must meet the requirements as listed under “Required Documents” for your ISW sub-category)

Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)

 

Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) offers you a way to immigrate to Canada. Through the SINP, Saskatchewan:

-  Invites residency applications from non-Canadians who want to make Saskatchewan their home.
-  Nominates successful applicants to the federal government, so they can gain permanent residency in Canada.

The SINP is only one of the steps toward becoming a permanent resident in Saskatchewan. All applicants must also apply for residency through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Canadian Immigration Commission.

 

There is a choice of three SINP categories you can apply to. You will also have to complete the federal application forms at the same time.

 

Process for Applying to the SINP

  • Review the Application Guide in each category or sub-category, for instructions on how to complete your application. The guide contains all the information you’ll need for this.
  • Obtain all the supporting documents we ask for. For a detailed description, please see the Supporting Documents section of your Application Guide.
  • Complete the needed federal forms and any other federal forms that apply to your situation.
  • Review and organize your completed forms and supporting documents to make sure you have a complete application package.

Through this category, the SINP can nominate skilled workers who want to live and work in Saskatchewan. You'll need to meet the SINP criteria and have factors that will help you settle successfully in Saskatchewan, including but not limited to: education, skilled work experience, and English or French Language ability.
